Only a small fraction of cases were adjudicated by German military tribunals. Trials followed German law covering common-law offenses against Occupation forces, acts of civilian resistance (such as muttering "Sales Boches!" [Dirty Krauts]), and actions committed by the Resistance. The vast majority of Occupation victims were not formally charged or brought to trial.
