Le Comité Parisien
de la Libération
(The Parisian Liberation Committee)

Le Comité Parisien de la Libération (CPL) [Parisian Liberation Committee], a coordinating arm of the Parisian Resistance, united resistance member of every tendency: Ceux de la Libération, Ceux de la Résistance, CGT, Front National, Libération-Nord, Organisation Civile et Militaire, Parti communiste, and the Parti socialiste. From the start in the fall of 1943, this committee echoed the widespread misery of the Parisian population in terms of nutrition and food supplies, heating, wages, and follow-ups to bombings.
The committee criticized the Prefecture of the Department of the Seine for not addressing the problems encountered by the population appropriately, becoming the mouthpiece for concrete demands, particularly concerning ration allotments by the services du ravitaillement [food supply services].
The CPL encouraged the population to openly oppose the German authorities and the Etat Français by issuing calls for protests to demand food and coal.
Combined with the work of organizing an armed resistance effort, starting in the winter of 1943 to 1944, these propaganda activities created a favorable climate for the Resistance that was a prelude to insurrection.
